What changed
The feed was visible on desktop as recently as May 2026. Observer Damien Andell reports Google has "shut down Google Discover on desktop in all the countries where it was working", and Barry Schwartz confirms the homepage is now back to "a big search box and a lot of white space" — Search Engine Roundtable's report →
Two caveats worth holding. Google has not commented, so this is an observation rather than a confirmed deprecation, and features have come back before. And it is desktop only — Discover on mobile is unaffected, which is where essentially all of its traffic came from anyway.
What this means for publishers
For most Indian publishers, very little changes in the numbers. Discover was always a mobile surface here; the desktop feed was a small, newer addition and never a meaningful share of sessions. If your Discover traffic looks flat this month, this is not the reason.
What it does say is something about Google's own conviction. A feature launched with an announcement and removed without one is a feature that did not earn its place — and it is a reminder not to build a content strategy on a single surface you do not control. Our guide to getting content into Google Discover is about the mobile feed and still stands; it just deserves to sit inside a broader content plan rather than being the plan.
