Ecommerce marketing that survives its own ad bill
Why D2C growth is a unit-economics problem
Most D2C brands do not die from lack of traffic. They die from buying traffic at a price their margins cannot carry.
The pattern is familiar: ads work at small spend, the brand scales, auction prices rise, ROAS slides, and suddenly every order loses money once shipping and returns are counted. More budget makes it worse, because the problem was never volume — it was that the whole engine ran on one rented channel.
The way out has three parts. Diversify the demand so organic search carries weight ads do not have to. Fix conversion so the traffic you already pay for produces more orders. Build repeat purchase, because the second order is where D2C economics actually turn — acquisition maths that ignores it will always look worse than the business really is.
Paid, organic and retention. One P&L.
We do not report channel ROAS in isolation — the in-platform number always flatters. We report blended: what every order cost across everything you spent.

The real numberThe D2C purchase funnel
Fast, mobile, and unforgiving. Each stage has its own leak and its own fix.
| Stage | Shopper question | What we run |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery | "Oh — what is this?" | Meta and creator-style creative, category SEO |
| Comparison | "Is it better than what I know?" | Google Shopping, reviews, comparison content |
| Trust check | "Will it arrive? Can I return it?" | Product-page CRO, delivery and returns clarity |
| Checkout | "Why did shipping just appear?" | Checkout friction fixes, cart recovery |
| Repeat | "Would I buy this again?" | Lifecycle email, replenishment flows |
Which platform deserves your next rupee is a real question with a real answer — we wrote it up in Google Ads vs Meta ads for D2C.
How we run D2C growth
- Unit economics first. Margin per order, target CAC, and what ROAS actually has to be for you — before any campaign is built.
- Fix the store. Conversion problems multiply every channel, so CRO comes before scale.
- Capture existing demand. Shopping, search and ecommerce SEO on the queries already happening.
- Create demand with creative. Meta scaled on a testing cadence, not on a lucky ad.
- Close and recover. Retargeting and cart flows on the demand you paid for.
- Grow repeat. Lifecycle flows that turn first orders into a customer base — then reallocate to whatever the blended number says is working.

D2C marketing FAQs
What does an ecommerce marketing agency actually do?
Run the demand side of an online store as one system: paid campaigns on Meta and Google that acquire customers at a ROAS the margins can survive, ecommerce SEO that compounds into free traffic, conversion work on the store itself, and retention that raises repeat purchase. The channels matter less than the maths connecting them - contribution per order after ad spend is the number everything answers to.
Should a D2C brand run Google Ads or Meta ads?
Usually both, doing different jobs. Meta creates demand - it interrupts people who were not shopping with creative that makes them want to. Google captures demand - Shopping and search convert people already looking. A brand nobody searches for yet leans Meta; a brand in a searched category leans Google; most end up with Meta feeding the top and Google closing the bottom.
What is a good ROAS for D2C in India?
There is no universal number, because ROAS is only meaningful against your margin. A 3x return is comfortable for a 60 percent gross margin product and a loss for a 25 percent one. The honest way to set the target is to work backwards from contribution per order - and to watch blended ROAS across all spend rather than the flattering in-platform figure.
How much does D2C marketing cost in India?
As market ranges: paid media management runs ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000 a month excluding ad spend, SEO ₹25,000 to ₹1,50,000, and a full-stack engagement across paid, organic and retention ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,00,000 and above. In D2C the ad spend itself usually dwarfs the fee, which is why the fee's job is to make the spend more efficient.
Why is my store getting traffic but not orders?
Usually one of three reasons, in this order of likelihood: the traffic is cold and the store asks for the sale too fast; the product page fails a trust check - reviews, delivery clarity, return policy; or checkout friction, especially around delivery charges appearing late. Fixing conversion is almost always cheaper than buying more traffic, which is why we look at the store before the ad account.
