Social Media Marketing Packages
What is actually inside a package in India, what each tier should contain, and the six things that quietly sit outside the quote.
Every agency sells packages. Almost nobody says what is in them.
You get a Silver, Gold and Platinum table, a list of words like "content calendar" and "community management", and a number at the bottom. Two agencies quoting the same rupee figure can be offering work that differs by a factor of three.
This page is the checklist we would want a client holding when they compare our proposal against someone else's. If you want the price question rather than the inclusions question, that is what social media marketing costs in India.
What a package should actually contain
Six components. If a proposal is missing one, ask why before you ask about price.
| Component | What it means | The question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Strategy | Who you are talking to, what you are saying, why anyone should care | "Is this rewritten quarterly, or written once and never opened again?" |
| Content production | Static posts, carousels, reels, stories | "How many pieces, of which types, per month?" |
| Publishing | Scheduling and posting | "Who owns the accounts — you or us?" |
| Community management | Replying to comments and DMs | "Within what response time, and on which days?" |
| Reporting | What happened and what changes next month | "Does the report contain a decision, or just numbers?" |
| Paid amplification | Boosting or running ads behind the content | "Is the ad spend inside this fee or on top of it?" |
What the tiers usually look like
Directional market ranges, not our rate card. What a business actually needs depends on how many platforms genuinely matter to it — which is usually fewer than it is being sold.
| Tier | Monthly range | Typically includes | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | ₹25,000 – ₹40,000 | One or two platforms, 8–12 posts, basic reporting, community management on working days | A local business or an early D2C brand |
| Growth | ₹40,000 – ₹70,000 | Two or three platforms, 15–20 pieces including video, monthly strategy review, faster response | An established brand with a real audience |
| Full | ₹70,000 – ₹1,00,000+ | Multi-platform, higher video volume, dedicated creative, paid social managed alongside | A brand where social is a primary channel |
Note what changes between tiers: content volume and response speed. Not "strategy" — every tier should have a strategy, and an agency selling you strategy as an upgrade is telling you the cheaper tier does not have one.
The six things that sit outside the quote
This is where proposals become misleading, usually without anybody lying.
- Ad spend. The single biggest one. A ₹40,000 package does not include the money that goes to Meta. Always ask which number is fee and which is spend — the ambiguity is where most billing disputes begin.
- Video production. Editing supplied footage is usually included. A shoot, a crew and a location almost never are.
- Photography. Same distinction. Someone has to point a camera at your product, and it is rarely inside a retainer.
- Influencer fees. Coordination might be in scope. What the creator charges is not.
- Paid tools. Scheduling platforms, stock libraries, design licences.
- Festival and campaign surges. Diwali needs three times the usual output. Ask now how that is handled, not in October.
How to compare two proposals honestly
| Compare | Not |
|---|---|
| Pieces of content per month | Number of "posts" — a story and a produced reel are not the same unit |
| Platforms that matter to your buyer | Platform count. Five platforms done badly loses to two done well. |
| Community response time in hours | The words "community management" |
| Whether reporting contains a decision | Report length |
| Who owns the accounts and assets | Nothing — most people never ask, and it matters enormously at exit |
That last row is worth pausing on. If the agency owns the Business Manager, the ad account or the original design files, leaving them is expensive in a way no proposal mentions. Ask at signing, not at renewal.
Which platforms are actually worth paying for
The honest answer for most Indian businesses is fewer than they are being sold.
- Instagram — the default for consumer brands, and the one where video volume drives everything. See Instagram marketing strategy.
- Facebook — still where the audience is for many categories outside metros, and where paid social does the heavy lifting. See Facebook marketing strategy.
- LinkedIn — only if you sell to businesses. Otherwise it is a package line item nobody reads.
- YouTube — high production cost, long payback, and the most durable of the four.
A package covering four platforms at eight posts each will usually lose to one covering two platforms at fifteen. Reach without frequency does not register — the reasoning is in top of funnel marketing.
Organic-only, paid-only, or both?
Most packages quietly assume organic only, and most results quietly depend on paid.
Organic social builds trust with people who already follow you. It reaches very few new people, because platform reach is throttled. Paid social reaches new people and stops the day you stop paying. Neither replaces the other — the trade-off is set out in organic vs paid social.
If your goal is enquiries this quarter rather than a healthier-looking feed, make sure the package has a paid component and a spend figure attached to it.
Where to go from here
Take whatever proposal you are holding and answer three questions from it: how many pieces of content per month, on which platforms, and what is excluded.
If you cannot answer all three from the document, that is the feedback to give — and it is a fair one to give us too.
Frequently asked questions
What is included in a social media marketing package?
A complete package includes strategy, content production, publishing, community management, reporting and — where relevant — paid amplification. The parts that vary most between agencies are how many pieces of content are produced each month, how many platforms are covered, and how quickly someone replies to comments and messages.
How much do social media marketing packages cost in India?
As a directional market range, roughly ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000 a month depending on platform count and content volume. A starter package covering one or two platforms sits at the lower end; a multi-platform package with regular video sits at the upper end. These are ranges rather than a rate card.
Does a social media package include ad spend?
Almost never, and this is the most common misunderstanding in the category. The package fee pays the agency for the work; ad spend goes to Meta or the platform and is separate. Ask for one explicit sentence in the proposal confirming which number is fee and which is spend.
How many posts should a package include per month?
There is no correct number, and the useful comparison is pieces of content rather than posts — a story and a produced reel take very different effort. As a rough guide, eight to twelve pieces suits a starter engagement and fifteen to twenty suits a growth one. What matters more is consistency on the platforms your buyers actually use.
Is it better to cover more platforms or post more often?
Post more often, on fewer platforms. Social algorithms reward consistency, and reaching a small audience repeatedly builds more recognition than reaching a large one once. Four platforms at eight posts each will usually underperform two platforms at fifteen.
We put the exclusions in writing before you ask
