Best AI SEO & AI Visibility Tools (2026)
Real, currently-operating tools for tracking whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews mention your brand — checked one by one, because most "AI SEO tool" lists online are already out of date.
Search "best AI SEO tools" and most results are either outdated by months or reviewing a product that's already pivoted or shut down. This category moved from roughly zero tools to over a hundred competing ones in about 18 months — it's still consolidating.
So we checked each tool below directly, as of August 2026, to confirm it's real and currently operating before including it — not pulled from a training-data memory of what existed a year ago.
This page covers the tools. For what the terms themselves actually mean — AI visibility, citation share, LLM visibility — our AI search guide and its entity pages cover the concepts these tools are built to measure.

Before anything paid: Semrush runs a genuinely free AI Search Visibility Checker, no signup required, three checks a day, covering ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Confirmed live, directly on Semrush's site. For most businesses just starting to ask "do AI tools even mention us," this is the honest first step — not a paid platform.

Semrush, Ahrefs, Writesonic, Nightwatch and SE Ranking figures/features confirmed directly from vendor sources, August 2026. Otterly.ai and Profound pricing is third-party-sourced — their own pricing pages didn't fetch directly this session, so verify the live number before budgeting. This category's pricing moves genuinely often; treat every figure here as a starting point for a conversation with the vendor, not a locked-in quote.
Semrush and Ahrefs: check what you already have first
Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit adds a 0–100 AI visibility score, competitive prompt-gap analysis and sentiment tracking across ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini — confirmed directly in Semrush's own documentation. If AI visibility is a new concern layered on top of existing SEO work, this is worth checking before adding a new vendor.
Ahrefs' Brand Radar tracks brand mentions across Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, built on a database of over 150 million monthly prompts — confirmed directly via Ahrefs' own academy documentation. Which specific paid plan unlocks it wasn't stated on the page checked; confirm against Ahrefs' current pricing page. Our best SEO tools guide covers both platforms' core SEO pricing if you're evaluating them from scratch.
Dedicated AI-visibility trackers: Otterly, Profound, Scrunch
These three exist specifically for this one job, at three different scales. Otterly.ai is the SMB entry point, reportedly starting around $29/month, tracking ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot at a lighter prompt volume.
Profound is built for enterprise scale — monitoring across up to nine answer engines with prompt-volume and citation analytics, and it's raised real venture funding ($35M Series B, per third-party coverage), a signal the category has serious backing even if pricing details are still opaque from the vendor directly.
Scrunch AI sits in between: confirmed Starter pricing at $300/month for multi-LLM citation tracking across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini, plus AI-crawler traffic analysis via a GA integration. Worth noting explicitly: Scrunch tracks visibility but doesn't generate optimisation recommendations — it tells you where you stand, not what to fix.
Writesonic: tracking and content in one tool
Writesonic's AI Visibility product is the one tool here confirmed to combine monitoring with content generation — Starter at $79/month for tracking across 3 platforms, up to Growth at $399/month with 10-platform tracking and an "Action Center." If you want tracking and the content response to a visibility gap in one subscription rather than two tools, this is the closest match found.
Is this category actually mature enough to buy into yet?
Honestly, not fully. One industry roundup describes the space growing from roughly zero to over a hundred competing tools in about 18 months, with more than $200 million in venture funding across it — a figure worth treating as one source's estimate, not verified consensus, but directionally consistent with how fast new entrants keep appearing.
Several vendors' own pricing pages weren't independently accessible even to a direct fetch during this research — itself a small signal that the category is still figuring out how it wants to present pricing publicly. That's not a reason to ignore AI visibility; it's a reason to start with the free tools, and commit real budget only once a specific, ongoing tracking need is clear.
Our own free AI search readiness checker is a genuinely free starting point for the adjacent question — whether AI crawlers can actually read your site cleanly in the first place, which matters before any visibility-tracking number means much.
What "AI visibility" tools can't tell you yet
Worth being honest about the limits before buying anything in this category: none of these tools has direct access to how often people actually prompt an AI assistant about your category — that data largely doesn't exist publicly yet, which is exactly what our own LLM visibility and citation share pages cover honestly. What these tools measure is sampled mentions across a fixed set of test prompts, not your true share of every real conversation happening about your category.
Treat every score and percentage from these tools as directional — useful for spotting a trend over time, not as a precise measurement to report to a client or board as a hard number.
We track AI visibility and act on what it shows
Monitoring is only half the job — the other half is the content and structural work that actually moves a citation gap. That's what our AI-SEO/AEO/GEO service covers.
